Chorgis think too BIG!!!

Corgis—especially Chorgis (Chihuahua/Corgi mixes) – think they are big STUFF!!! Today, while I was out watering my tomatoes, the Corgis were out running around the side yard, checking out the woodpile… “You never can tell if you might flush a squirrel or rabbit out from under there, you know, Mom…” Suddenly I hear the roar of a dog fight starting up.

I turned and our thoroughly courageous (or is that stupid…) little Dott (weighing in at all of 12 lbs.) was attacking the neighbor dogs about half way across THEIR pasture. Now, our neighbor’s dogs are pretty good sized Australian Shepherd dogs… probably a good 50 – 60 lbs each so I was scared to death that they would seriously hurt the little idiot. She was rolling around underneath their legs with her little Mohawk up, snapping at their legs.

Of course, I started yelling… at her to “get back here!” and at them to “get home!”, etc., and that alerted BG and Sadie who took off to defend their little “brave?” friend. My son was also out there and he started yelling too.

Once BG and Sadie hit, and Dott heard my son’s voice, she was able to get out from under and headed back toward the fence. The other two kept it up a few seconds more and then broke off (the Aussie’s had seen my son running toward the fence and they split toward their place).

When Dott saw them running, she turned and was going to chase them the rest of the way back, but then thought better of it because her “Daddy” actually used the “B-D (Bad Dog)” words on her and then she KNEW she was in deep doo-doo.

We checked them all when they got back and no one was injured… just some pulled and wet hair… might be a bruise you can’t see, but no broken skin. She was one of the most apologetic bunch of wiggles you’ve ever seen as she begged her “Daddy’s” forgiveness… little booger!!! I think we all got quite a jolt of adrenaline there!!!

I finally got that recipe for pozole from my sister. First, my BIL (Brother In Law) diced up several pounds of pork into stew-sized chunks. Then he shook it in a bag until it was covered with flour and seasoning salt w/ garlic, and fried it until it was almost crispy. They refrigerated that and the next morning, my sister put the cooked meat in a big pot, and added 4 cans of diced green chili, water, chili powder, garlic powder, hominy and a bit of cayenne.

They simmered that most of the day until it was very tender. My BIL says that true pozole does not have flour in it… it is more like menudo – a clear soup, instead of this stew-like meal. His is a cross between pozole and the chili verde my mom used to make. It is really great to have on a cold night, and that is why he always makes it for the parade.

Have a brain — unlike a little Chorgi I know — and don’t go pickin’ on someone who is 5 times your size… May you stay warm and full.
