Yummy Liver Vitamin Tabs…

Published by ocmist at 3:36 am under Corgi Country Dogs Edit This

Today I decided to try giving the canine members of our family some new “Chewable Vitamin Tablets for Dogs…” My sister gave them to me because her little Chihuahuas are VERY picky eaters and wouldn’t touch them. I thought, my dogs will eat anything and probably could use some vitamin supplementation in their diets… couldn’t hurt them anyway.

First, these tablets are almost 1 inch in diameter, but the bottle promises that they are a “Yummy liver flavor, your dog will love…” Hmmm… well, we’ll see. I pitched one to Sadie, the black Border Collie. She snagged it out of the air and swallowed it whole… Ok… maybe this will work.

Sadie Smiles

I tossed one to O.C. She sniffed it, took a lick and then looked at me with a “You expect ME to eat THAT…” look. I watched her for a minute and then pointed it out to B.G. so he started to walk in that direction. O.C. saw him coming and dropped her head, growled a bit under her breath and then got a “Well, HE sure isn’t going to get it…” look, picked it up and started chewing, giving me and B.G. dirty looks all the while.

You’re Kidding…

I told her she was a really good girl and gave her a piece of jerky (My corgis will do ANYTHING for the kind of Lamb and Rice Jerky I get for them… won’t touch other kinds, just the one brand) Two down, two to go…

Meanwhile, B.G. is looking at me like, “Hey, You said I could have that! Why’d she get jerky… Where’s mine?” I handed him a tablet which he snatched… got a “what the heck…” look and promptly spit out. He sniffed it a couple of times and then looked back up at me. I waved the jerky at him and told him to “get it…” indicating the tablet. Sadie started to move toward him, so he gingerly picked it up and started crunching.

BG Looking

After a lot of praise and some more jerky being handed out, I turned to the “Princess.” Ok, it’s Dott’s turn… I rolled one at her and she looked at it… looked at O.C. … looked at me again, and I showed her the jerky and told her to get it. She sniffed it and then turned to my coat that was hanging on the back of a chair beside her and nudged it like she was thinking, “Wonder if I could get away with hiding it in there…” She looked at me again and at the other dogs looking at her. I waved the jerky and told her “Come on, you can do this… eat it and you can have this…” She looked at it again and then started shoving at the rug around it with her nose like dogs do when they are trying to bury something.

THE Look…

My son and I are trying hard not to laugh out loud by this time. We encouraged her again with more jerky waving. She picked it up with much less enthusiasm than she picks up dead squirrels and mice, and bit it in half, then spit it out again… and looked at me… “Come on Grammy, you really don’t expect me to eat that do you?” I handed out more jerky to the other dogs, telling them what good dogs they were to eat their vitamins, and Sadie started working her way toward Dott’s pill, so she gave a big sigh, a little lift of the lip at Sadie and went ahead and crunched it down… I gave her two big pieces of jerky and lots of praise.

I’ve got a feeling that Sadie is going to be a very healthy dog with all of the vitamins she is going to get over the next few weeks, because I’m pretty sure she’s the only one that’s going to eat them from now on…

Smug Sadie

Make sure you get some vitamins that YOU like, and stay healthy… May life not leave a bad taste in YOUR mouth… Smile at someone today! :)
